It’s the event that signals the beginning of the Christmas season in Barry and attracts thousands of people each and every year. The High Street light switch on has become centrepiece of the Christmas calendar and a great community event for all to enjoy.
This year, the theme was Victorian and all shops along the street got involved in fancy dress.

Bro Radio hosted the stage and provided entertainment throughout the evening, which also included performances from Barry Male Voice Choir, Superstars in the Making and a visit from the Barry Round Table santa sleigh.
The Mayor of Barry, AM Jane Hutt and Vale MP Alun Cairns all attended to show support to the event, which was sponsored by Barry Town Council.

People from all ages enjoyed themselves, with smiles all round. Rides were available for children and a number of stalls also helped bring footfall to the shopping precinct.

All in all, it was another successful light switch on at High Street and full credit to all involved. The focus now turns to King Square for the lights switch on and the opening of Ice Central.
