The Scouts of Barry & the Vale of Glamorgan are looking for support with funding for a project which is being undertaken within a scout hall in St Brides Major. They are attempting to get funding from Aviva
The reason why this project is so important is, as the hall stands at the moment is considerably limiting its use both by the local community and further afield. Once the hall has been upgraded, it will be used by over 500 Scouts from all over South Wales as an activity centre, training centre and a residential experience for them and other youth organisations, along with an increase of community involvement.
The project includes the introduction of disabled access to the building, a disabled toilet, shower room and extra rooms for the adults to sleep separately from the youngsters. In addition to this, the plan is to improve kitchen facilities and the energy efficiency throughout the building, along with having hot running water throughout. In order for the building to be used effectively and safely, the hall needs major work on the access to the hall and the outside facilities.
There are 3 phases for all work to be carried out both inside and outside.
Phase 1 is to introduce a Disabled ramp, Disabled Toilet/Shower which introduces hot water in the hall along with new windows, external doors throughout the hall and loft insulation.
Phase 2 is improved access and security for the site, overall appearance of the outside of the hall.
Phase 3 is improving the kitchen, toilet Facilities and ensuring a safe training environment in the surrounding woods.
