Help Needed To Send 10 Local Dancers To The Dance World Cup

Help needed to send 10 local dancers aged 9-12 years old from the Nicola Peros Ballet School in Barry and Cardiff to compete for TEAM WALES in the Dance World Cup this June in Offenburg, Germany.

The Nicola Peros Ballet School which holds classes in both Barry and Cardiff is delighted to announce that 10 young ballet students aged between 9-12 years old have qualified to compete for Team Wales in this year’s Dance World Cup which is being held in Offenburg, Germany. Keira Durston who will be competing in the Pointe Solo and Ellie Daniels, Grace Long, Elizabeth Hope Angove, Leia Cavaliere, Louise Bagnall, Mollie Foley, Mia Thomson, Stefanie Maurer and Eleanora Smalley who will all be competing in a group dance, will be flying the flag for their country at the opening ceremony on 23 June at what is considered to be the Olympic Games of the dance world.

This is an amazing achievement for a ballet school that has entered the competition for the first time and a great honour for the Barry, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan but In order to cover the costs of sending these talented young dancers to this event, the Nicola Peros Ballet School are trying to raise around £4,000. This will help to pay for accommodation, flights, travel costs at the venue and the dancers’ costumes.

According to school Principal and RAD Registered Teacher, Nicola Peros, the students will be carrying out a number of fund raising activities such as bag packing at local supermarkets, they will be holding a Craft Fair and Coffee Morning event at St. Nicholas Hall, Barry on 29 April which they would like members of the public to come and support, students will be embarking on a sponsored walk and they are holding a raffle to help to raise funds. There is also a crowd funding Just Giving page which individuals, family and friends can donate to. Nicola Peros says, “A £5 donation will cover the cost of ribbons for the shoes for the dancers so anything members of the public can donate will be greatly appreciated.”

What Nicola Peros Ballet would also like is for local businesses to get behind the dancers and support them with a donation. They have put together a sponsorship package for businesses which includes for a £250 donation, a business/company logo on the Team Wales tracksuits, press activity in the form of a dedicated press release for the business/company to publicise the sponsorship, the logo to appear on the Nicola Peros Facebook page, website and on any adverts.

Nicola continues,

We feel that this is an amazing opportunity for local businesses to get behind talented young children in the area and to build a relationship with Nicola Peros Ballet. We feel that we have a lot to offer. Our RAD examination success rate is 100% with grades of Merit and Distinction. Over the years we have had a number of talented young dancers go on to top vocational schools including The Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School, Hammond School Chester and Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. Our students have appeared regularly on the TV. Maisie French currently in full-time ballet training appeared as the young Margot Fonteyn in the Darcey Bussell documentary on her life that was shown on the BBC at Christmas, 10 year Stefanie Maurer currently on the Junior Associate Programme with The Royal Ballet was the subject of a feature on S4C’s Heno recently and the school was also featured on S4C’s series on dance, “Mwy o mwfs.” I have been interviewed on BBC Radio Wales on items to do with dance including the Wynne Evans Show and I was delighted to have been asked to judge The Cardiff University Dance Competition which is a nationwide competition which sees students from all over the UK compete in a number of different dance genres. We also stage full length versions of classical ballets and last year we had more students than any other school in Wales successfully audition and win paces to dance with the English Youth Ballet in their production of “The Sleeping Beauty” at the New Theatre in Cardiff.

We truly hope that you can dig deep to support talented children fulfil their dreams.”
