This morning, Monday December 12th saw a proud morning for staff at Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School as pupils begun to distribute over 100 Christmas Hampers to local elderly residents. These hampers have been put together from donations made by Bryn Hafren pupils and parents. The Bryn Hafren Christmas Hamper tradition dates back over 30 years where pupils donate food items in their form classes to create hampers. This year’s total of over 100 hampers dwarfs last year’s total by over 30 hampers!
Pupils at Bryn Hafren are renowned for their generosity and fundraising efforts and this is no exception. Head Teacher Mr T. Davies said “there is no better feeling for me as a Head Teacher than having our pupils show the generosity they have. The letters of thanks we receive from the hampers’ recipients are one of my seasonal highlights and emphasise our pupils’ Christmas spirit and generosity”
The special parcels will be delivered by pupils over the next few days to residents in Barry, often who are nominated by the pupils themselves. Described as a “humbling experience” to see how much of a difference a small gesture from each person can make to brighten someone else’s Christmas.
