Another post office in Barry is set to close. Barry Island Post office, based on Plymouth Road is set to close on February 28th 2017 at 8pm.
The notice states the post office is closing due to the resignation of the Postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use and is only a temporary closure. It follows a string of post offices in Barry which have closed in recent times. The main post office at Barry Town closed in January, despite efforts to save it, as well as post offices at Park Crescent and High Street. Although, local shop owners have taken the opportunity to open post offices within their premises at both shopping areas which ensures local residents still have the use of post office facilities.
A letter was also sent to Barry Town Councillor Shirley Hodges advising of the temporary closure.

Cllr Hodges commented:
“The letter from the Post Office has given assurances that the closure is temporary. They are looking for a new retail partner on the Island. It’s vital the Post Office reinstate their services as soon as possible, I’ve asked the local press to spread the word that a retail partner is needed. I hope the Post Office themselves go the extra mile to find that partner.”
Lets hope a partner is found ASAP so local Post Offices services are available to Barry Island residents.
