It’s Wins For Barry Town Ladies & Under 14 Teams

On a weekend of postponements, Barry Town ladies first team and U14 Dragons team enjoyed good cup wins.

With another week of fixtures heavily disrupted by the bad weather there were only a handful of our teams in action at the weekend.

Our ladies first team took on Rhiwbina at Jenner Park Stadium in the Ladies Plate competition with Barry putting in a professional performance against a lower level and young Rhiwbina team coming out with a comfortable 14-0 victory.

The goals came from Luca Laky (4), Naomi Coulson (4), Stacey Ayling (3), Ellie Drew (2) and Abi Smyth. The result see’s Barry progress into the last 4 of the competition as they look to add some silverware to what has been an excellent season to date.

The Ladies Development team traveled to play Splott Albion in their latest league fixture. Despite putting in a good effort in difficult conditions, Barry suffered a 3-0 defeat and they will look to bounce back next week when they take on Newport County.

With the U16’s FAW Cup Semi-Final postponed, it was down to the Under 14 BTU Dragons team to take centre stage with a much anticipated League Cup Quarter-Final against Cardiff City Ladies.

Both teams have had numerous battles in recent seasons and this match was no exception. Barry took the lead through Elen Matthews before Cardiff leveled in the second half to take the match into extra time.

Barry showed tremendous team spirit and courage to come out on top in extra time and goals from Lauren Harris and Ffion Spence gave Town a 3-1 victory and a place in the Semi Finals.

In other competitive fixtures, BTU Cardiff Under 12’s played out two fixtures against Treowen Stars. The first match ending 3-2 to Treowen before Barry responded with a 3-3 in the second fixture.

Hopefully the weather improves next weekend as we look to get all teams back in action.
