Pupils at Bryn Hafren school returned to fundraising enthusiastically after the half term break this week. After hearing about the personal experiences a staff member had with Marie Curie nurses pupils in 8KN were so moved they wanted to do a week of fundraising activities in support of the Marie Curie Daffodil appeal. To start off the girls volunteered to give up their mobile phones (to which they have access at break and lunch) for a whole day in return for sponsorship. Their head of year Mr Coombs locked their phones away for the entire day and some pupils wondered exactly how they would cope without them!
However all pupils successfully made it throughout the day and raised over £500! Special mention must be made for Olivia Hedley Grant who raised over £100 on her own.
Form teacher Mrs Botfield says there are still lots of fundraising activities planned over the coming week and 8KN are aiming to raise over £1,000 for Marie Curie.
Mr Coombs and the year 8 team were so pleased with the pupils’ mature attitude towards raising funds for this worthy cause that there are plans for the entire year group to participate in the fundraising idea in the summer term. Watch this space!
